Lifestyle Solutions Video: A Brilliant Way To Inspire Kids To Cook
I'm a bit of a broken record when it comes to my advice that it's awesome to get kids in the kitchen with you, but it's totally true. Getting your kids in the kitchen is a fun way to have together time with the added benefits of hands on learning (math! science!), life skills development, and the eventual payoff of having your kids make a meal for you (WOO HOO!). This week's lifestyle solutions video involves a brilliant idea Jon and I landed on to inspire Laurel to cook (even more than usual). The results have been DELICIOUS.

Friday Find: Besito Mexican
Friends, have you tried Besito Mexican yet? I've been eager to visit (Mexican being among my favorite foods) and finally got around to doing so, thanks to a very kind invitation to me and Jon right before the holidays. On that note, I first want to say that it was so lovely to kick off the holiday season with a chill date night -- I highly recommend you do that next year! And second, I wanted to share a few reasons why Besito is a great meetup spot:

The Yummiest Banana Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake
As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of getting kids busy in the kitchen. The more they practice, the better they get -- both at making things and cleaning up. Over the years Laurel has practiced a ton and is a devoted from-scratch baker, and also makes a killer spinach souffle, among other things. She recently made my favorite coffee cake and after posting the below photo on Instagram and Facebook, several people asked me for the recipe. Here it is!

Vanilla + Chocolate Coconut Milk Ice Cream
I love that Boston is home to so many fantastic independent ice cream stores. I love eating ice cream at said fantastic independent ice cream stores. My kids love eating ice cream at said fantastic independent ice cream stores. It seems like the perfect union! However, Violet's dairy allergy means that when we're out we end up getting her something she's not wild about (e.g., slush) or we ask for the tiniest kid sized cone possible and then deal with gnarly eczema flare ups.

Awesome 5-Minute Green Smoothie Recipe
I'm not sure why, but for the last couple of weeks I've found myself eyeing green smoothies at cafes and in markets, then walking away because I don't want to shell out $5-8 for something I might find totally gross. So over the weekend -- after finding myself in this position yet again -- I decided I should try making one myself. And I will admit, I was shocked by the result! I made this recipe up on the fly and it was so awesome on the first attempt that Laurel asked if I would make more so we'd have a stash in the fridge.

10 "Perfect" Holiday Cookies

It's apparently Bake Cookies Day. For real. Get on it! Now, about the title of this post. During the holidays, for me cookie perfection isn't about fanciness or uniformity; instead, I want to make cookies that: 1) are delicious; 2) are easy to make; 3) yield generous batches (i.e., work well for gifting); 4) can be made in small bite-sized portions (i.e., make for happy sampling); and 5) freeze well (so you or your recipients can save leftovers for a less cookie-saturated time). Here are 10 cookies that fit that definition of perfection for me.

Two Holiday Cookies I Could Eat All Day

I love cookies. Truly love them. And from the reaction I received on Instagram and Facebook when I posted this picture, clearly y'all love cookies too. On Thursday I'll share more cookie inspiration, but first, here are two amazing cookies I brought to a cookie party on Sunday. They're classically holiday (in the buttery goodness sense) and worked well as small bites for the sampling party. Many people asked for the recipes/sources, so here they are:
