When I was in Atlanta last week on business, I had the opportunity to meet up with my friend Katherine Stone; Katherine is the brains and heart behind Postpartum Progress, a non-profit that raises awareness and provides support to women as they recover from postpartum depression and other associated mood and anxiety disorders. I was amazed (though not surprised!) to hear about a wonderful project Katherine is working on and wanted to share it with all of you.
Katherine is leading the charge to rally women on June 21, the longest day of the year, to Climb Out of The Darkness -- to represent the symbolic rise out of the darkness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and into the light of hope and recovery. You can check out the list of climbs across the U.S. (check ou thte map below; actually, there are also climbers rallying in Canada, Mexico, the UK, the Netherlands, and New Zealand!) and join the fundraising effort.
Also, important: not everyone lives near a mountain and not everyone may be able to tackle their emotional/physical climb on June 21. If you'd like to join this effort, do it whenever works for you, on your terms. And please share this with friends who have been impacted by postpartum depression. No one should have to go it alone.
