Shopping Green

We at Boston Mamas are of a decidedly green persuasion; today Kate reports on a fabulous shop in Cambridge that adheres strongly to an eco-modern philosophy:

“Growing public interest in ‘green’ products – those that are renewable, relatively chemical-free, and gentle for people and the natural environment – is generating a small but discernable boom in available and affordable earth-friendly products. But, until the recent past, consumers with an interest in eco-items have often had to limit their shopping to specialty websites and catalogs, as mainstream stores rarely carried organic products. This situation is changing, and the City of Cambridge boasts one new store dedicated entirely to green products. Greenward, located between Harvard and Porter Squares, carries a range of items for the body, home, family, garden, and bicycle, and pledges that each of their products meets one of their ‘eco-modern’ criteria: recyclable; handmade; made from recycled, organic, or sustainable materials; energy efficient; biodegradable; or educational. The look of the store is colorful, airy, and fresh, with beautifully displayed products and a knowledgeable staff. Run by Scott Walker and Simone Alpen – partners both in business and in life – Greenward is a labor of love, and the products sold there reflect a sensibility that prizes both the natural and the stylish.”
