Giveaway Goodness: Pivot Boston

Pivot.jpgOh my goodness, I'm still on a high from the awesome that was Pivot Boston last night! It was a huge amount of work putting together this two hour event but it was so gratifying! We sold out, our waitlist was overflowing, the positive energy was buzzing like crazy, people were asking about another event (I do, in fact, have an idea for a second Pivot...), and there were just so many incredible attendees, spanning a wide range of ages, interests, and backgrounds. Having made a big career pivot myself, it was moving to see so many people seeking passion in life. Yay!

Now, it goes without saying that this event couldn't have happened without help. This was a volunteer effort; a passion project by me and my co-hosts Morra, Whitney, and Roxanna. Our amazing assistant Kaitlyn and a couple of other fine helpers were invaluable. And then there are our sponsors. I wanted to take a moment to call them out. Because they are awesome and also took a gamble and supported us on this first-ever venture.

Thank you to:

  • Hubspot, Sam Adams, Peapod, and Sweet Cupcakes for providing refreshments.

  • TaskRabbit, for providing rabbits to help get the refreshments and goodie bags to our event, and also for helping us with registration.

  • Caroline Cook Photography, for being our event photographer. I can't wait to see the event photo album!

  • Lands' End for the beautiful totes that served as the goodie bag base.

  • Dancing Deer, Lift Lab, Posh Peacock, AmLactin, Dr. Loretta, Wiley, Leslie Graff, Goodies, Jabra, Adora, and Mom.com for the wonderful goodie bag contributions.

  • And finally to Peapod (groceries!), Taza Chocolate (chocolate!), Stella & Dot (baubles!), Leslie Graff (fine art!), and Caroline Cook Photography (smashing new headshots for 10 women!) for the amazing door prizes.

And of course I was honored to be a speaker and was truly inspired to hear about the pivots made by Heather Coughlin, Karen Rubin, Roxanna Sarmiento, Leslie Graff, and Whitney Johnson -- who, by the way, was amazing in facilitating networking after the close of the program.

Seriously, I'm still on a high from this event. Just go check out the #PivotBoston hashtag and you'll see why. Meanwhile, I wanted to keep the Pivot Boston love going. I have an extra goodie bag from last night and want to give it away to one of you fabulous readers. See below to enter to win (also, for another chance to win, hop on over to Roxanna's site)!

I wish I was paying attention and attended this event! I took a look at the agenda and what a fabulous group. I hope you do this again!

My fantasy pivot - My family and I just got back from Hawaii and to be honest, I think I would pack them all up, move to Maui and open a small digital marketing shop for local businesses. Now I just need to convince my husband.

I'm lucky enough to be mostly living my pivot...working for a fantastic nonprofit but if I could tweak it a bit it would be to work for a nonprofit focused on preventing child abuse and strengthening families.

I have a great idea for a business but my family can't be without my income to allow me to run with it. My pivot would be to get it going.

Or pack it all in and move all of us to a houseboat in Amsterdam!

I'm so happy that your event went well! In the past, I made my pivot from finance to parenting writing, speaking and consulting.
Next year, my youngest will be in school for the full day, so I'm trying to figure out what my next "pivot" will be!

What an amazing event! I do have a goodie bag and not throwing my hat in the ring for another one (keep my fingers cross for all the others...). But I do have an idea for another Pivot as well, Christine! Let's chat a bit further about that- we should keep this momentum going!

I would open an arts and crafts studio!

What an awesome event! Id love to add some non profit work to my life and if I could combine that with travel to some exotic locales with my family, that would be perfect!

I am Mama to an almost 3 year old, was a floral designer and always an artist. My PIVOT! - now that my daughter will be in pre-school, I want to begin a business from home using my abilities as an artist to create paintings and quilts using and depicting baby toys, clothes and memorabilia.

I'm not sure I have the time to do soul searching to figure out my pivot. Maybe waiting for that epiphany moment. I know it when I see it.

I would love to win a goodie bag! If I had more time, I would love to be a literacy volunteer. I would truly love that!

Sounds like you put together an amazing evening, congrats! Thanks for the chance to win this amazing prize!

While I love my job, I think would love to write and decorate cookies all day. So my pivot would be allowing myself to be more creative and pursue writing more.

    Yes, please!

Excited about Dancing Deer cookies and brownies. The company was started by three women and I'm a fan of their business philosophy. If I had the chance, I would take my kids to the Philippines to meet relatives and experience a different culture.

My pivot would be to create a mothering center in the metrowest area.

I am planning for a major job pivot in January 2012. I currently
work in investments but in January I start a 2 year nursing program. I can't wait!

Sounded fascinating. Is this happening again? Would love to attend.

I was a manager in banking and systems development and went back to nursing school 10 years ago. Never regretted this Pivot and wished I had done it earlier.

i would love to take flying lessons

I'm contemplating a major pivot in my career, deciding if I have the courage to go for it....

I made the Pivot from medical research to being an English teacher. Incredible move that has allowed me to be with my husband and son more. Wish I did it sooner.

Oooh, I think maybe if I could drop everything? Id go to art school.

    Would l
    Steph

I would love to get out of working with health insurance and instead do something that helps new Mama's - like being a post-partum doula or something along those lines.... Thanks for making me think about what my pivot could be... :)

I already pivoted in the recent past and I'm not ready to do it again, but if I could "drop everything" I'd just do more of what I'm already doing. I love it!

That sounds like an amazing event! I have so many pivot ideas, but my main one has always been to open a camp for kids with cancer and HIV...maybe one day!

I heard great things about it, so glad it went well! I'm looking forward to hearing about the next one...

I wish I could have attended this event! Maybe you will do something similar soon? I have a busy, satisfying career that I love but I wish I had I more time to spend at home with my family - not sure what my pivot would be but it would somehow involve working from home.

If I could PIVOT right now I would LOVE to go back to school so I could have a career that is more conducive to raising children! I "retired" nearly four years ago because I could not deal with fact that I did not see my daughter for 10 hours a day. A PIVOT idea- how do we get the point across to the workplace that we are raising the next generation of taxpayers and that they do get sick and yes we have to leave early to take care of them.

I was signed up to go but had to send an imposter (aka my biz partner BobbieC) and she said she's keeping the goodie bag...so this is my second chance! So happy for all of you and I look forward to being healthy for future events! My pivot already happened when I got laid off last summer and had the great fortune of teaming up with Bobbie to kick off our agency. Never give up.

My pivot would be to create an income source that is enough for my fiance and I to travel the world for an extended period of time. We're working on it! :)

Will definitely check out this event the next time you hold! I would love to start my own business...when my husband sells his, it will be my turn to take a risk!

Thanks for the chance to win! My pivot would be to teach ESL in a low income city.

Wish I knew about this event sooner. I am trying to find my pivot but I am searching for a path that will allow me to spend more time with my daughters.

I'd like to open a bright, clean, well organized drop in childcare for parents who need last minute help.

I am sad that I found out about this event after it had already sold out! It sounds like you had an amazing night! My Pivot- To use my blogging and social media skills to make a profit and still having the time be a full time CEO title to my family. I am learning!
