March Maple Madness
I love when the March maple madness events kick in; they're a great way to show kids that syrup comes from somewhere other than a grocery store aisle. This weekend you can enjoy: the Somerville Maple Syrup Project (Sat.), South Shore Natural Science Center Maple Festival (Sun.), Blue Hills Maple Sugar Days (Sat. & Sun.), Drumlin Farm Sap-to-Syrup Farmer’s Breakfast (Sat. & Sun.), and Ipswich Sugaring Off Tours (this & next weekend).
Have I missed other awesome local maple syrup events? Feel free to comment in below to share them with the community.

Not an event, per se, but for those North of the city, I highly recommend a visit to Turtle Lane Maple Farm (http://turtlelanemaplefarm.com/). This family taps maple trees all around North Andover and then makes their own syrup. They welcome other families and groups to come by, see the operation, ask questions and snag samples. You don't need to wait for a tour, but check out their website to make sure they're boiling on any given weekend. It was cool to see how this small hobby turned into such a big undertaking. And it was great to be able to ask questions in a small group setting.

This is a really nice surprise to be in the article. The season has been a rough one thanks to Mother Nature, and looking at the 10 day forecast it will probably be a short one too. So if you are looking to bring the family to a sugar house this year, or want to learn about how syrup is made, come see us. Our tours are free and cover the history, math, science and mechanics of how maple is made. We also give out 6 samples during our tours (maple sap, mid-boil, maple syrup, maple cream, maple candy and maple sugar).
Thanks and hope to see you soon!

Christy- thanks for the suggestion to go to Turtle Lane Maple Farm! We took our four young boys and we had a great time! The rain was a non-factor, since the whole thing takes place in the sugar shack. There is only a short walk from the road to the shack. You'd walk as far to go into the mall or the grocery store! No biggie. And Paul and Kathy had an easy, friendly manner that gave a great picture of the whole syrup process in an intimate setting where the kids could get a close look without feeling crowded. Go, go, go!
