(Safely) Paint Those Piggies

piggy-paint.jpgWhether her nails are exposed during summer or concealed by socks and mittens during winter, Laurel loves having her nails painted; she typically wants at least four colors in one sitting. Subsequently, I only use non-toxic products and am a fan of Piggy Paint’s natural, odorless nail products. Available in a cool palette of colors, the polishes apply smoothly and are bright on application. And Piggy Paint's nail polish remover is blissfully free of stinky solvents. It takes a smidgen more time for polish to come off with the non-toxic remover (compared to the chemical-laden stuff), but those seconds are well worth it, knowing that Laurel's nails are in good hands.

Now, want to win a gift card to Piggy Paint? Here’s how:

I think Piggy Paints would be great to use on myself while pregnant!

I quit using nail polish because of the harm the chemicals in it cause to the environment. Is Piggy Paint as safe for the world around us as its apparent immediate low impact on ourselves?

    She would love "girls rule"!

My daughter would love the forever fancy nail polish!

Hi Jen, thanks for your comment. I'm (obviously) not in on the actual composition of Piggy Paint polishes, but I would say that since these polishes are water-based and made from natural ingredients (e.g., aloe) and are free of polluting solvents, they are safe for the environment.

That's my personal take, and why I dig the polish and featured them here, but I'll also email your question to Piggy Paint and ask them to weigh in via comments.

    best,
    Christine

I would love these for my young daughter because they are safer than the chemical nail polishes

    Dear Jen,

Piggy Paint is as Natural as Mud in the sense that every ingredient in the polish is biodegradable with no traces or residues left behind, thus it would make an excellent addition to your mulch pile. The acrylic and polyurethane resins are present in the polish in the form of latexes-emulsions in water-very similar in form and function to milk. The term "resin" is quite generic and refers to any polymer which can form a film as it dries. In this sense, proteins, celluloses, sugars, and DNA, to name a few "natural" polymers, are resins and none of these are any less harmful than the resins we use in our polish.
