Pasta Perfection

capone.gif

Sometimes you just don’t have the steam to get dinner together at the end of a hectic day. If you’re looking for take out meals suitable for the whole family (I have yet to meet a kid who doesn't like pasta and cheese), guest contributor Jules (our house professional foodie) recommends checking out the fresh, flavorful dinners and sauces of Capone Foods in Cambridge and Somerville:

“The storefront is discreet, but don’t be fooled; the food is anything but. Capone Foods, with its first location at 14 Bow Street (Somerville), and its new, second location at 2285 Mass. Ave. (North Cambridge), is warm and inviting and stacked to the ceilings with quality products.

Run by Al Capone (yes, that’s his real name) and his daughter, Jennifer Capone Hegarty, Capone Foods sells its fresh, homemade pastas on site, and to restaurants and specialty markets such as Whole Foods and Savenors. Their popular cut to order pastas, ravioli, and gnocchi are offered in tried and true whole wheat and egg, as well as in more complex flavors such as ginger, red wine, and squid ink. More recently, Capone Foods has perfected its take out meals. These perfectly seasoned, just-like-your-grandmother-used-to-make entrees are invaluable at the end of a long day. Packed with fresh veggies and homemade sauces, the chicken marsala and eggplant entrees are must tries.

If you’d rather just pick up a sauce, options abound, but my personal favorite is the chimichurri, a simple blend of parsley, garlic, olive oil, and white wine vinegar that transforms a simple piece of meat or fish into a unique dinner. Capone’s also offers a quality selection of cheeses, mustards, meats, spices, breads, homemade sausages (duck and lobster!), oils, and vinegars, including a special house blend olive oil. The options may initially appear overwhelming, but the owners are happy to offer tasters and home preparation tips to both culinary novices and professionals.”
