Pass It On

My sister-in-law Estelle, an avid recycler who has played a large part in keeping Laurel dressed via hand-me-downs, passed on word about an amazing consignment event in Albany, NY. Yes, this stretches our loose definition of “local,” but readers in Western MA, NY, and even bordering VT and CT could make the trek easily.
Pass It On is a twice-yearly consignment event where you can sell your children's outgrown items and shop for new and gently worn items at bargain prices. The March consignment period has passed, but the event - with over 400 consignors - is open to the public tomorrow through Saturday. And keep you eye on future dates; consignors, volunteers, and first time parents get special shopping windows. Estelle also said that the organizer is thinking about hosting a similarly organized sale in Boston. Keep your eco fingers crossed!

Not only is the selection for clothing really great, but they have lots of toys, books, baby equipment and even children's furniture-type items.
The sale is extremely clean, neat and well organized with everything in an easy-to-find location.

As a Mom with champagne dreams, but boxed-bubbly reality, I have a VERY distinct taste in infant-toddler clothing; sometimes trying to match my childrens outfits to the "dream" gets VERY pricey.
I was turned on to this sale (2 years ago), and like several others, I figured it would be a glorified rummage sale. WELL, was I happy to be wrong.
Catamini for $4, Oilily for $9, Carlotta for $7, Therese for $5, Sarah Louise of England for $3, are only a few of the VERY high-end botique clothing you can purchase, in basically like-new condition. An Inglesina stroller for $50; a Medela pump in style advance (NEVER USED!!) $60.
If anyone out there has similar tastes, they know that Catamini/par mini typically sells for >$60; Oilily, easily upwards of $100.
So, for anyone within a 300mile radius, the sale is WELL worth the cost of petro for the drive!
My only suggestion, bring a LARGE VAN!!
