Culture on a Budget

librarian.jpg

Public libraries are an amazing resource; in addition to active children's room programs (e.g., story times, sing-alongs), many libraries have museum pass programs to permit free or reduced admission to Boston's many cultural attractions.

Libraries differ in their offerings (search for your local library website via the Massachusetts Library Directory), but many tend to have affiliations with the major museums (e.g., Museum of Fine Arts, Children’s Museum, Museum of Science, New England Aquarium) and outdoor venues (e.g., Garden in the Woods, Massachusetts Audubon Society).

Comments

Speaking of library tools, if you're like me and are constantly taking books out for your kids, and your significant other is also taking out books for the kids, and both of you are forgetting when they're do - do as I did and sign up for the free service at http://www.libraryelf.com.

You give the elf your library card numbers, and the Elf sends you an email a configurable number of days before anything is due - on your account or your spouse's. And keeps sending you an email daily until you actually return it. Or sends you an SMS on your phone. It's great, and works with almost every library in Massachusetts.
